Press Release: The Brothers of the Baladi at McMenamins' Kennedy School • Friday November 16th, 7pm. Brothers of the Baladi will bring their World Music mix to Kennedy School for an all ages show on Friday November 16th at 7 pm. Belly dancers, Zaina (Vancouver) and Jim Boz (San Diego) will also perform danse oreientale in this special showcase. Brothers of the Baladi are named from the Arabic word, baladi (bah-luh dee), which means country, country folk and people. First known for their traditional Middle-Eastern music, the Brothers now tastefully mix traditional ethnic/acoustic instruments with Western instrumentation, vocals in seven languages and exotic rhythms with familiar grooves. The band is finishing a new CD titled Just Do What’s Right, available in early 2008. It will feature 8 original songs sung in English, traditional Arabic and Persian material as well as covers of “For What It’s Worth” (Buffalo Springfield), “Keep on Rockin’ in the Free World” (Neil Young) and “Nothing to Fear” (Chris Rea). The Brothers will showcase this music for the first time at the Kennedy School. Featured dancers on this evening will be Zaina and Jim Boz, performing separate sets and bringing the crowd out to dance, as well. Multi Award Winning Zaina Hart is a charismatic performer whose trademark is her mesmerizing arm and hand movement and unique body styling. Zaina is a performer/choreographer who is also known for her precise hip articulation and fiery performances who has been performing Middle Eastern Dance for nearly 30 years. As a male performer of Middle Eastern Dance, Jim Boz is known for his strong presence coupled with masculine grace.
